 DocuCentre C6550 I / C5540 I boast the highest print speed in their class (Medium-speed digital color multifunction machines) at 65 ppm in monochrome and 50 ppm in color (A4 long-edge feed) (DocuCentre C6550 I, A4 long-edge feed; DocuCentre C5540 I achieves speeds of 55 ppm in monochrome and 40 ppm in color). Such high speeds are made possible through a newly developed hybrid tandem engine and a redesigned paper feeding process. Additionally, the machines adopt other new technologies, such as a traction drive to operate the drum, which has a large diameter even for monochrome printing.
The use of EA-HG (Emulsion Aggregation-High Grade) toner helps boost the reproducibility of subtle hues of red, blue and green, thereby enhancing image quality. Four separate VCSELs (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers) with 32 beams each have been incorporated in the hybrid tandem engine. Each color is scanned by the 32 beams to achieve a resolution of 2,400 dpi.
An image compression (Optional PDF, TIFF) feature means that multiple documents can be effectively transformed into DocuWorks (Compatible with DocuWorks Viewer Light 5.1 or above) or PDF (PDF version 1.3; can be opened with Acrobat® 4.x or above) format by compressing scanned text and graphics at the required compression ratio. It is also possible to print high volume color documents using a compression feature that eliminates any burden on the network.
